in the pink desert

Donald and I took one last road trip before my Fall semester began, to experience the fruits of summer while they remained! Living in California means that at some point you have visited Las Vegas, and for me it has been over a dozen times. I consider it to be a malleable location, one that suits whoever visits. As a kid I busied myself with roller coasters and jumbo-sized desserts; as a teenager I crammed myself into cheap motels with family; and as an adult I've found the most relaxing corners of the city and the most delicious food.

Glitter is a must. I laughed at myself for having more clothes (and shoes) than Donald for a two day trip.

It was raining while we were there, so there was a pink hue across the sky which I loved. I usually stay at the Venetian but we tried a new hotel with an immaculate view. I never get tired of seeing those lovely fountains or visiting the Bellagio botanical gardens.

The garden's theme changes with each new season, so there's always something new to see- like this giant bee made of flowers!

I wore a pearl-embellished dress to dinner one night with a chain bag. Even fake Paris is romantic!

We spent three full days there, most of which was either captured on my iphone or not at all. I wanted to enjoy my last moments of relaxation without bringing the camera to our personal outings. By outings- I mean playing roulette until I won, and playing glow-in-the-dark miniature golf. Classy times! We drove back home through the night and were thankful for our temporary solace.

  1. sounds like an awesome trip! :-) as much as visiting Las Vegas is something you've done many times, it still sounds like a very exotic location to me! ;-) that Bellagio botanic garden seems lovely, and you know what? there's a lovely place in Northern Italy, not too far from where my parents live, that is called Bellagio - almost the same name! :-)

    1. What a lovely place to live nearby! I think they named the hotel after that location in Italy - they are always trying to emulate some part of the world in Las Vegas hah! Even though I've gone many times, I always find something new to do! :)

  2. You've really captured the more classy, whimsical aspects of Las Vegas, it really makes me see the place in a whole different light! I've always imagined it to be a tacky, glitzy, maybe even scary and tasteless place from the stories I've heard about it from my father, but it actually looks really lovely here :)

    1. Well it can be all of those things for sure, but so can many large cities! It just depends on what you choose to do and avoid :) I hated Las Vegas for several years because I always stayed in crummy places. It's worth it to spend a little more and have a nice time! x

  5. I've never really been drawn to the idea of Las Vegas because it seems too glitzy for my taste, but I love how you've shown a different side of it! It would definitely be a great place to roadtrip to if you lived nearby.

    1. The close proximity definitely makes it easier to visit, but every time I'm there it's mostly French and British tourists haha. They apparently love it. It has it's high and low points but it just depends on what you like to do! x

  7. I would say Las Vegas is not compatible with my personality, but I've always been attracted to it. It's funny, because I was talking about it with my brother-in-law this past weekend and how I really want to go.
These pictures definitely to it justice!

    1. Las Vegas is definitely not compatible with my personality (I don't like drinking, smoking, gambling, crazy people and hot weather) but there's definitely a different side to it that can be really love. Namely the dinners, lovely rooms and endless relaxing (that's what I do anyway!)

  8. Glad you had fun in Vegas. I was watching a wedding show recently where the prize was a trip to Las Vegas. At first I thought the winners got jipped, but then I realized that if you've never been there, it is pretty remarkable. The drive can be very haunting too. That being said, there's something for everyone! I still enjoy the crazy buffets, but the tasty ones of course! The desserts are my fav :) xx

    1. I love the drive to Las Vegas - this time when we went there were giant storm clouds so it looked even creepier than usual. Listening to David Bowie didn't hurt either ;) I haven't done a buffet in years but there's definitely an entertaining element to it haha. I think most people think Vegas is some shitty place (which it can be obviously) but mostly it depends on your budget. You and I both know first hand how bad it can get hahaha! x

  9. haha classy times. your trip actually sounds a lot more classier than the ones my friends have told me about! so how many rounds of roulette did you have to play till you won? =P

    1. Heh well I lost count to be honest! Overall I won $200 across my trip, which is quite a feat since playing roulette can go bad very quickly. I only started playing in the last year, since I hated gambling before that. I think it's best not to take yourself too seriously if you're in Vegas and you'll have a fun time :)

  10. That sounds like a perfect trip to savor the last moments of summer. The botanical gardens look beautiful as well. I love the photo of the closet, and I'm the exact same way - I've got to have options! You never know which mood you'll be in when the time comes, so it's better just to bring twice as much as you need ;) hope you're having a good start to your semester! I've enjoyed reading all your summer travel posts x

    1. Thanks Emily! You understand me completely :) I ended up wearing each and every outfit for different occasions. It's not everyday that I can do such a thing, as I mostly wear quite understated things at home! Good luck with school too! xx

  11. for such an overtly tacky place (i say that with fondness because i loved it when i was there), you've certainly managed to capture some real beauty in las vegas, not that i would expect any less from your eye behind a camera. i love the desert photo and the carousel, it looks like it's come out of a dream with the giant flower next to it!

    1. Hehe I've definitely seen the tacky parts (AKA downtown Vegas) but I try to stay away from that because it can be really depressing! I've probably stayed in most of the hotels at one point or another, so I've figured out the nice places to go that don't feel too cheesy. They have the best restaurants in Vegas though, which most people don't realize! I always eat something new and finish the night watching the fountains. It's all about careful planning :)

  13. How lovely! I've always wanted to visit las vegas. I didn't know there was such a sweet side to it, in my imagination it's always about bachelorette parties, strippers and gambling haha XD I'm glad it's not only that o/ Hope uni isn't smothering you now!
haha I loved the babel tower at the doll museum too! I think it's the owners who designed everything. It was one of the weirdest/coolest museums I've ever been to haha XD I still can't believe they didn't let me work there :((
