a sweet disposition

I suppose anyone who attends school is now in a whirlwind of projects, as I currently am. In a sense it can feel stifling, because you can no longer do whatever you please, such as visiting the Getty while wearing a biscuit dress. Those types of days will surely exist again, but not as sweet (pun intended) as it was on one bright afternoon. It was the last day that I spent with my sister, before she moved to England. Changes are inevitable, and retaining a halcyon disposition is necessary; it's what I always seek.

I mentioned several posts back that I was getting a haircut, which I did. I used to have bangs for years, but returning to them felt quite strange at first. I chose to pair the biscuit dress with my favorite Marc Jacobs' Mary Janes that I seldom wear. They were a perfect match!

My sister moved to England to live with her boyfriend. It's actually the first time that we've lived apart, but I understand that it's quite common among most siblings! It can be challenging in some ways, but I always revel in confronting difficulties and making them better. Vanessa wore a lovely black and white ruffled shirt, that went great with her red lip color. We made the most of our last time together!

Wearing the dress felt very feminine, since it hugs you comfortably at the hips. A few people complimented me and others stared in wonderment (probably because I was standing in front of a Klimt drawing hah!) Lately I've been working on innumerous projects that provide me with a sense of optimism throughout the week. While coursework can seem absolutely tedious, I also love it x

    1. Thank you Nana! I have no shortage of things to do at the moment hehe, but it keeps things exciting. It's going to take a while to get used to her move, but luckily Donald is a great companion and does so much with me. :)

  2. I had missed your posts, Valerie! it is true, though, that once school starts, there is less time for blogging unfortunately. anyways, long live interesting and inspiring school projects too! also, I am a great fan of bangs, despite the fact that it is almost impossible to keep them in place, especially in a windy city like Helsinki (is it windy where you live?)! :-) p.s. I know how it feels to have a sister that lives abroad - I really miss my twin sister (she lives in Italy), but you should be happy for Vanessa: England is such an interesting place, full of opportunities, plus she gets to love with her boyfriend, which is great, isn't it? :-)

    1. *I meant to type "live with her boyfriend" instead of "love" - but somehow this mistake doesn't sound too bad! ;-)

    2. I missed your posts as well Polly! I was happy to catch up with them and hope that I can keep up regularly. Everything you post is exactly what I love to see :) Bangs are impossible to keep in place but luckily it's not too windy here (not compared to the Faroe Islands!) and I always have a hairpin as back-up. I definitely wish her luck on her own journey. I know I couldn't live away from my boyfriend so I'm glad he moved to me so I didn't have to make difficult decisions! Being away from your twin must be doubly hard, but I suppose my sister and I were much closer than other siblings I know of. These are the great fluctuations of life, and we just have to be accustomed to it x

    1. Thank you Lindsey! Bangs are so hard to worry about all the time. I love no-fuss hair, but alas I grew tired of it.

  8. Your haircut looks amazing! And your optimism is continually refreshing. It's nice to view a significant challenge, like a loved one moving away, as a chance to learn and grow. I'm glad you're enjoying your coursework; though it can be grueling at times, I definitely agree that it is enriching and enjoyable. You look so sweet in your dress and Mary Janes - perhaps my favorite type of shoe! x

    1. We're in such similar situations in terms of appreciating our classes and what they do for our overall growth :) I always have to work at optimism because it's certainly not automatic for me at times. In the end, I know it's better for productivity and being a pessimist never did anyone good! I wish I could wear the shoes more but I don't want to ruin them hehe x

  13. Ohh, how you describe my feelings on the comeback of college projects so accurately. - I absolutely adore that dress on you! And your new haircut is cute, the bangs are nice. Currently I'm trying to grow them out which is horrendous.

  14. ohh this makes me so excited for my biscuit dress, it's wonderful to see how it fits on a person and now i'm looking forward to it even more! :) also that photo of your sister surrounded by the flowers is just beautiful.

it's so sad when things have to change. :( i wish i could say something to make you feel better about your sister moving away but there really isn't anything, it just is what it is. as least you'll have someone to stay with when you visit, i suppose. and it's nice that she'll be happy living with her boyfriend over there, but it doesn't make it less sad for you. hope you're doing okay! xxx

  15. You and your sister both look just lovely. I hate living away from my sisters as well, but it always leaves opportunities for visiting at least! I can't imagine anyone better to be wearing that dress, either.
