santa monica vintage

Over the weekend Vanessa and I paid a visit to a vintage exposition, where vendors from all over combine their timeless collections together. It takes place once a year in Santa Monica and we were both on a hunt for some lovely gems. I have been needlessly searching for a velvet hat and the perfect dress, always. Mostly we were content to spend the afternoon away from laborious tasks!

I admired many hats, ran my fingers through delicate dresses, and resigned myself to the fact that they were much too expensive. Sometimes I wish vintage items were 1/3 of their price, but I suppose their special qualities deserve monetary rewards. We even saw Dita von Teese perusing through the same racks, she looked quite immaculate and Vanessa even exchanged a few short words with her.

Since we were in Santa Monica we visited Swingers, which I mentioned in my Los Angeles guide. It had been years since we last ate there, but it still felt like old times. Vanessa ordered delicious French toast and I had the vegetarian "sloppy joe". Diner food at its finest.

Vanessa in her sundress. I've been increasingly aware that my winter garments are no longer suitable for this bright sunny weather. Perhaps our pale skin really needs the sunshine, but truthfully I am quite useless with summer attire! The week now resumes- and I hope you all have a great Monday x

  1. I've never seen so many gorgeous dresses in my life(online or in person). Shame we are poor. Dita surely had a ball in there. Thanks for not posting the pic of me and her. Some things should be treasured privately ;)

The search for lovely dresses goes on! :) xx

    1. Hehe of course I wouldn't share it ;) There were some very pretty dresses. Somehow I gravitated towards the fluffiest and sparkliest dresses, and they were the most expensive! Argh...the search does go on...

  2. Wow. The place looks amazing. Such a shame that good vintage is so expensive. I find summer dressing difficult too, I'm such a winter girl.

    1. It was so unexpected to see her there and although we see random celebrities a lot, we were a little starstruck. Mostly because she looks ridiculously stylish and has glowing skin. Sigh. Haha it's not gibberish and I always get entertained by your trips and observations :)

  8. That sounds like a lovely exposition. I too wish vintage was cheaper! I suppose that's what thrift stores are for :) also, is Vanessa your sister? You might have mentioned that already in a previous post, but I can't remember!

    1. Yes, Vanessa is my older sister (by six years) and you can probably tell that we do tons of girly things together. My boyfriend Donald would not enjoy vintage expositions haha! I would wear purely vintage if it wasn't so expensive, but you're righ thatt thrifting is a lot more practical! x

  14. Awwww the embellished hat you wear in the third picture is the cutest, and you both are so lovely ! I couldn't agree with you more about the fact that vintage becomes less and less affordable, but at the same time, I think clothing of the past is often just better made than a lot of clothes now !

    1. Yeah I agree, unfortunately the sizing is often bizarre such as much too small shoes and the teeniest waists! And thank you, I loved that hat too x

  15. oh wow, both of your meals look amazing! and that fair would have been wonderful to go to, but i feel the same about vintage prices, i can never afford/justify spending that much money on real vintage clothes, i just settle for vintage inspired or the things i find at op-shops regardless of when they were really made.

    1. They were gluttonous and delicious :) Vintage inspired is usually just as well (thats debatable I suppose) but mainly because the sizing is much easier to go around. I used to only shop at thrift stores but at some point the stores caught on to the styles I desired x
