my living room

My boyfriend and I have lived in our apartment for nearly four years, with our two cats Erlend and Eirik. We bought all of our furniture as soon as we moved in and not much has changed since then. The only thing that I update is our mantle, which I do according to season. For Christmas I made a large wreath out of coffee filters and for Halloween I had angry cats hissing. For now, I can't get enough of flowers.

We spend most of our time in the living room, since the dining room is nearby. Truthfully we use our coffee table for most meals, especially when watching a film and eating vegetarian pizza. My favorite is when both of my cats sleep on the furry chair; it's like a giant cat is embracing them. You can tell by my frames that I love thoughtful animals and the film Badlands.

The first thing we bought as a couple was our couch in 2007, so it holds a soft spot for me. You must always start somewhere!

Erlend and I have been spending more time on the patio lately. I even bought some new things for our little outdoor space, which I'll share in a future post. Here's a playlist that I've been listening to a lot lately (while forcing myself to paint watercolors) x

  1. I can't believe your cats are named after the Kings of Convenience. That is too perfect.

    1. Hehe thank you :) When I found my cat Erlend in 2003 I couldn't imagine naming her anything else. It turned out she was a female cat though! Then when I got my second cat, she was also a female but I had to keep the tradition going :)

  4. I adore Erlend, so sweet and soft looking! :) Your space looks so lovely, light and peaceful! I have green eyes at the amount of space! I can't wait to have more than one room! I want a white living room, yours looks so airy! :) I hope your week is going well pretty lady, looks nice and sunny in your pictures, enjoy some heat for me in rainy cold Scotland! Zoë xxx

    1. Thanks Zoe! We do have quite a bit of heat at the moment, which is why we're gravitating toward the patio. We are grateful to have two rooms besides the living room, but in California everyone wants more space! I would love a proper backyard one day with flower trees. Humble beginnings lead to a humble life though :)

    1. I did! I've always been a massive fan, and the fact that they are handsome men does not hurt! My cats are females though so it's always funny explaining their names to veterinarians x

  6. That picture of the cat with the collar is probably one of the coolest portraits of a cat I've ever seen (I have a black cat, so I may be a little biased...).
Your living room looks like a homey and wonderful place to hang out in. Your cat's a beauty, by the way.

    1. I got that cat portrait from etsy and specifically searched for "animals with elizabethan collars" haha. Couldn't believe it was a reality. Thank you on both fronts, my cat loves compliments :)

    1. Thanks Nana :) I included my feminine touch on some things, but Donald picked out the furniture with me so it was mutual. Thankfully he's had the same taste as me, otherwise there would have been arguments (and I would have won anyway) haha! x

    1. Thank you Fay, I love yellow and turquoise - my kitchen is full of the latter. Our style is very minimal and simple, kind of like a grandma meets midcentury x

  9. What a comfy room! I can't believe you made a Christmas wreath out of coffee filters... that is so awesome. Looking forward to an outdoor space post! Spring afternoons are the perfect time to relax outside.

    1. It was so simple and only took about an hour. I'm not always crafty, but felt like seeing a billowing wreath. I agree that afternoons outside are the perfect time! I've been in a mini heaven outdoors lately x

    1. I totally understand your sentiment! When I was younger I was itching to create my own space, and for many years had to borrow my family's furniture. It wasn't until we moved and saved a bit of money that we got to choose what we liked. It feels like the best freedom! x

  17. The two of you have such a great space, the paintings and photos on the wall are amazing. (especially the illustrations!!) The colours in your place are great too.

I'm looking for a place of my own, not for now.. but somewhere in the near future maybe, I'm currently in a studentflat, and I share my apartment with three other people. So it's basically just my 14m2. I would love to decorate my 'own place' and call it my home.

    1. I totally understand! For many years I lived in a small/not-so-great place and used old furniture that belonged to someone else (it was very ugly too!). I always dreamt of being able to choose my own items and decorate it as I wanted. I'm certain that you'll be able to do that too one day! x
