my darling erlend

3/12/2012

At times, I wrestle with the uncertainties of life. I've always been one who appreciates even the smallest gestures of good-heartedness and its inherent beauty. The way a flower blooms with proper nurturing, and how Donald makes me French toast when I'm down. My cat Erlend embodies all of it; beauty, strength and a calm understanding of how strange humans are (she stares at me all day long)!

It is because of the variable aspect of goodness, that I must be appreciative even when Erlend has been at the vet all weekend for an infection. She is a diabetic cat so that means she has a few more complications than your basic house pet. Believe me when I say that she is my true love, I don't say such things lightly. Needless to say, it is a thoughtful period, one where positivity is undoubtedly around the corner. I thought I'd include my favorite photos that I took of her, so that she can be adored worldwide!

  9. What sweethearts you two are! I adore her all the way from freezing Scotland! I love those pictures, I love the lounging on the bed one! :) My wee friend Cecil ran away when I went to stay at my mums for a few days, even though the rest of my housemates were there! I was SO worried, I went home early and I was shouting her name for like 10 minutes and then I heard her wee bell coming! She came running! She was full of affection for me and oh! I love her sooooo much my heart was so relieved! She is like my wee puppy just following me everywhere! :) Zoë x

    1. Aww that is sweet, I know she can feel your adoration from across the lands! That is a cute story (mostly about the bell ringing) but I'm so glad it worked out for you! I would be so devastated if I lost my cat, or worse, if she was no longer around. It is definitely a relief that Erlend beat her infection and is coming home now. We both can enjoy our pet companions now :)

    1. Thanks Nana! I think the good thoughts worked because she is coming back home and seems to have beaten her infection. It had something to do with a urine infection. Who knew cats got these things? Thank goodness for vets! Aww skyping with your cat sounds adorable, I'm sure he remembers you but it just trying to play it cool. He probably wants you to have a good time in Paris while he eats all the treats at home. Haha! x

    1. Oh my, that is one beautiful cat! She looks very regal. It's so amazing how you can get a kitty, and then many years later they are like family to you. I got Erlend when she was SO small. I even had to bottle feed her. Hope your kitty is healthy and happy too x

  12. I am genuinely moved, my cat is my world, and so few people seem to appreciate this kind of love.
These are exquisite pictures, so heartfelt.....I too find a curious solace in my connection to my kitty, his eyes still my soul and I have always affectionately called them 'portals to forever'. And yeh, I am sappy, haha! He is my island of calm in a cruel world, and just one of his silly gestures can right a thousand wrongs.

Wishing your little darling all the best x

    1. Aw it sounds like we feel the same way about our cats, "calm in a cruel world" manages to describe it quite well. Erlend has always been there for me despite all the ups and downs during her 9 year life. It really is a shame when they get sick and you realize they can't be there forever. I keep hoping I'll find a loophole or something :) Thanks for the sweet wishes and enjoy your little love too! x

  15. really??? what a coincidence <3
im going in August, so i have a lot of time to plan my trip. and im only staying for a week, so i won t be able to see everything i want to, unfortunately.
the thing is that i know absolutely nothing about LA, so any advice would be great!
like favorite clothing stores, second hand stores - like the amazing one you posted in the previous entry on the blog, record stores, your favorite places, parks, nearby places we should visit (i can take a train or bus), places to eat, to have brunch, markets, whatever you feel i should visit. i always see these amazing pictures of LA and everything seems so beautiful..
(i must take A LOT of film with me on this trip).

    thank you so much.

    1. A week would be sufficient to see plenty of things! Of course you might need a car, but I think the metro and or bus can take you to faraway places as well. My number one nearby city to visit is Santa Barbara (the ocean is unreal there) and there is a cheap train ride through amtrak that can take you there. It's one of the most beautiful train rides when you pass the coast. I will make sure to include lots of those types of places in the upcoming guide, and feel free to tell me if you want even more after that :) It also depends of which part of the city you're staying in but again - you can let me know in the future when you figure out more details! xx
