greystone mansion, flowers

Several days ago, my sister and I spent the day at Greystone Mansion, one of our favorite spots in the city. It's hidden in the steep inclines of Beverly Hills and is open for anyone to wander. The gardens are vast and we always come across previously undiscovered corners. The thing about this odd place is that so many movies have been filmed there; Eraserhead, There Will Be Blood, and an episode of Knight Rider. I'll let you decide which is most prestigious (hint: it features a talking car).

I loved the strange plants that resembled coral. My dress even matched! Both dress and bag are from Zara, the glasses are self-modified.

Vanessa managed to avoid all of the pollinating bees

We got an impressive view over the West side of Los Angeles, a sprawling flower field, and the vast front lawn which was wonderfully desolate. We're so used to being surrounded by millions of people, that it feels so special to find a quiet space.

I didn't want to leave!

Afterwards we went for food near Rodeo Drive (we didn't shop there, as that would be daft). Lately we've been eating at lots of vegan places since I gave up dairy. Because this cafe was in Beverly Hills, they go a step further and make it macrobiotic. It sounds rather fussy, but tasted so delicious! I had a club sandwich and Vanessa ordered a classic burger. Sometimes we're so American.

We ordered dessert too of course! If I could go back I would order 100 of these tarts and save them for each oncoming day. Oh, the life.

We should try the other M location on Melrose one day if are ever in the area. I don't have dairy restrictions, but I sure love a good veggie dish. Nooom.

  5. LOL @ Knightrider. Now I can't get the theme music out of my head.

It is a gorgeous place, gorgeus, gorgeous. We don't really have anything that looks similar to that in Australia - it is either beach or bush.

You hair look super red in these pics and the light is amazing. :)

    1. That theme music is so great. We don't really have places like that either in California, but you get a few attempts at "historical places" for a young state. Hehe my hair always look so vibrant in the sun and dark brown indoors! Tsk.

  7. What a lovely day! I recently gave up on dairy too (well, just cut back drastically, but I still indulge the odd ice cream...).
And I would love a burger right now!

    1. That's great and very healthy too! I had to give it up in January because I became lactose intolerant, but I would gladly have some regular ice cream right now otherwise! I do go crazy on soy ice cream though haha

  8. Wow what a beautiful place! The wonders you find hidden in the city XD your new dress fits you like a glove, what a great buy!
Oh my, I wish I could have the same will power as you, I've never managed to give up on anything food-wise (actually life-wise, I guess!). I'd totally give up on dairy if it weren't for the existence of milk chocolate haha XD Your food seems delicious, I love fruity tarts too! :))

    1. Thank you, I don't normally wear such fitted dresses but it was a must! I only gave up dairy because I became lactose intolerant, but having willpower with food is tough! I'm usually pretty good about it, but need to have sweets every now and then. I buy a lot of dairy-free chocolate bars and they taste just as good as milk chocolate :)
